Facilitation before Disputes arise or escalate

Facilitation is useful in a range of contexts, such as when consultation with different stakeholders is required, as part of a change process in a workplace, in governance situations or in any group meeting setting. The advantage of a facilitator is that they are independent and can facilitate the meeting and assist parties to identify issues of concern and the ways in which they may be addressed.

Facilitated meetings can be useful in a range of settings, including:

  • Workplaces
  • Commercial negotiations
  • Boards
  • Family discussions
  • In relation to an environmental proposals
  • Restorative Justice conferences

What is a facilitator’s role?

As facilitator I assist each party in information gathering, fact finding, round table conferencing, and developing processes and structures to enable parties to reach decisions.

Examples of my facilitation work include:

  • Community liaison meetings on a quarterly basis for the Three Kings Quarry from 2005 to 2012
  • Facilitating a meeting between a Board of Trustees and a school parent relating to sexual harassment and bullying allegations
  • Facilitating a meeting between a meat rendering company and the local community concerned about odour emissions
  • facilitating sports and recreation disputes between individuals and organisations engaged in sport and recreation
